The Scientific Conference on Patient Safety, organised by the Ministry of Public Health (MoPH) in collaboration with its partners, concluded yesterday.
More than 1,000 health practitioners from the public and private sectors participated in the conference which was held within the activities of fifth Qatar Patient Safety Week in tandem with the first World Patient Safety Day.
The two-day conference discussed a range of key topics, including: local initiatives that encourage speaking up for patient safety; the role of national clinical guidelines and e-health with regard to patient safety; patient safety in areas with unique challenges such as mental health; emergencies and crises; patient-centred care; and the use of patient safety framework to improve communication.
It also explores the concept of patient safety and quality of care in Emergencies and extreme adversity and its impact on health services provision, in addition to discussing and acknowledging some of the efforts done internationally, regionally and locally to address patient safety and quality of care in extreme adversity.
On the occasion of World Patient Safety Day, the Ministry of Public Health building was lit in orange on Tuesday. A number of buildings in Doha were also lit in orange including the Torch Hotel and Aster Hospital.
The Ministry of Public Health is organising a public awareness campaign at the Qatar Mall today and tomorrow in co-operation with the Qatar Red Crescent Society, Doha Clinic Hospital and Aster Hospital during which awareness and education activities will be offered to the public as well as video and technical presentations on hand hygiene and patient safety.
The fifth Qatar Patient Safety Week is an annual event organised by the MoPH at the national-level as an initiative and an educational and awareness campaign aimed at spreading the concept of patient safety among the workforce in healthcare institutions and their employees and to keep up with the international developments in this
