Sport plays a key and active role in the economic development of many countries, stimulating investment opportunities and establishes more businesses, Qatar Chamber chairman Sheikh Khalifa bin Jassim al-Thani has said.
Sheikh Khalifa made the statement on the occasion of the ‘Doha 2019 Inter-regional Sports Integrity Summit’, which concludes today. He said the summit focuses on basic principles that provide a safe and corruption-free sports environment.
The summit is organised by the International Centre for Sport Security (ICSS) and Qatar Airways, in cooperation with the Sport Integrity Global Alliance (SIGA) and supported by Qatar Chamber.
Sheikh Khalifa underlined the relationship between sports and economy. He noted that sports is significantly based on many economic pillars, and is one of the most important economic pillars of most countries.
He said Qatar is proud to be the first Arab country in the Middle East to host the 2022 FIFA World Cup. The Qatar Chamber official said selecting Qatar to host “the most important sports event” was not a coincidence but a result of collective efforts backed by the solidarity of the Qatari government and its people in preparing an edition that “befits Qatar’s name and prestige.”
Sheikh Khalifa said Qatar’s preparation for the FIFA World Cup in 2022 are on full swing, and stressed that the country is keen to provide a secured and stable sports environment.
“Qatar has adopted all leading principles and values in sports integration and has adopted the best practices to ensure the implementation of these values,” he added.
