The Doha Oasis for Innovation at Ali bin Hamad Al Attiyah Arena is a platform for youngsters to express their creativity and exhibit skills.
The event, which continues until September 20, is organised by the Ministry of Culture and Sports in co-operation with the Islamic Co-operation Youth Forum. The week-long event is under the supervision of Qatar Cultural and Heritage Events Center and in co-operation with the Qatar Scientific Club.
Marking the formal start, Al Attiyah Arena yesterday hosted an exhibition in which 42 youngsters presented their innovative ideas.
“The event is aimed at helping the youth develop their spirit of innovation and creativity apart from endorsing their capabilities,” stated Dr Hareb al-Jabri, executive director, Qatar Scientific Club.
During the event, individual and group competitions will be held. The organisers received around 7,000 applications and 42 participants, including 10 Qataris, were selected after a strict scrutiny by experts.
The participants, who represent 33 countries, will be given training in order to help them hone their skills. “We are looking to make them cognisant of the growing world and current trends. The training sessions will help them get an idea about the latest trends and developments and they will help them grab opportunities and face challenges,” al-Jabri explained.
Innovations presented at the exhibition are related to 22 sectors including information technology, engineering, medicine, water conservation, farming, mathematics, economy and waste management.  The presentations will be evaluated by a 10-member jury of experts and winners in individual and group categories announced. The participants will also be taken to cultural and heritage sites across the country in order to help them explore Qatar.
