The Primary Health Care Corporation’s eleventh Patients Forum was held recently at the Airport Health Center. The introduction of the forum, made by Head of Patient Engagement Dr Mohamed Abdalla, highlighted the significance of all comments and recommendations received during such forums for service development and quality improvement within PHCC.
He said that the PHCC is very keen on regularly holding these patients’ forums in all health centres to establish solid communications channels with society members, follow their concerns, and measure their satisfactions levels regarding our services. A presentation describing all main services and clinics was presented by Airport Health Center manager Dr Maryam al-Jaber.
She talked about specialised clinics within PHCC like Ophthalmology, Optometry, ENT, Premarital.
She spoke about how these forums should continue due to being an important platform for meeting patients and build strong relations with society.
With this type of relation, the patients will have a vital role in looking after their own health issues, and allow them to give feedbacks about improving clinical services provided by PHCC and especially by Airport Health Center.
Executive director of the Operations Department Dr Samya al-Abdulla said that PHCC acquired a new approach to expand all provided health services in order to have a comprehensive health care lining up with National Health Strategy and Qatar National Vision 2030, and all health centres are now following this approach to meet patients’ health needs.
Accordingly, the Smart Checkup Clinic was introduced for detecting serious illness and chronic diseases in addition to a Cancer Screening Clinic.
She noted that the main role of Smart Checkup Clinic is to detect main chronic diseases such as diabetes, high cholesterol level, and hypertension which are considered as the most common diseases in State of Qatar.
The Smart Checkup assist in the early diagnosis of these chronic diseases which subsequently may become a factor to control negative outcomes of these diseases.
Consultant Family Physician Dr Dahlia Hassan at Leabaib Health Center also mentioned the essential role of the family physician within the primary health care system. The importance of this role lies in reviewing the medical condition and following the treatment.
Lamia al-Barghouti, the manager of the Clinical Information System (CIS) at PHCC, said the clinical information system in PHCC was rolled out in all health centres in the past seven years.
Lamia revealed that a new service will be announced soon for delivering medication refills to patient’s homes, especially for patient of chronic diseases.
Those patients will soon be able to download a mobile phone application, select the required medication refill, enter their full home address information, and request delivery in exchange for a small fee. There will be medical consultations done through mobile phones in the future, she added.
