The Ministry of Interior (MoI) has reminded people to be cautious of anonymous and suspicious messages received through SMS, WhatsApp and other social media channels.
Fraudsters could send such messages to steal banking and financial information, the MoI said in an advisory posted on its Facebook page yesterday.
“Never respond to messages that require the user to update personal data. Never share your personal and banking information with unknown parties,” the ministry said.
These messages may include links or trademarks of financial institutions that the users deal with in order to mislead them to obtain personal banking information such as user name, password, credit card numbers, account details as other personal details, the advisory points out.
People should change the passwords of their email ID and other online accounts frequently, a related post on the MoI’s Twitter page advised.
“Make sure that it consists of letters, numbers and special characters,” it added.
One may report cybercrimes via the Metrash2 application or by sending an e-mail to [email protected].
