The Public Works Authority (Ashghal) on Sunday opened two more lanes of the Tilted Interchange tunnel which is part of the Khalifa Avenue project.
The 2.7 km long tunnel was opened for traffic in both directions providing free traffic flow between Duhail, Al Gharrafa and Al Rayyan.
The tunnel was opened to the traffic in one direction and two lanes were made available for road users coming from Al Gharrafa towards Al Rayyan from September 1.

The new Tilted Interchange tunnel has four lanes in each direction and it can accommodate more than 16,000 vehicles per hour after once it’s fully opened by the third quarter of 2020.
The tunnel has four intersections serving all facilities such as Sidra Hospital, Qatar Foundation and Qatar National Library.
The new opening will remarkably reduce traffic congestion in the area, especially on the Tilted Intersection.
The new tunnel will provide a free traffic flow for road users coming from Al Duhail and Al Gharrafa heading towards Al Rayyan by providing direct connectivity between the areas as well as reducing travel time between the neighbouring areas.
Ashghal has so far completed more than 90% of construction works of the prestigious Khalifa Avenue project, scheduled to be completed in the third quarter of 2020.
