The State of Qatar yesterday participated in the opening ceremony of the judicial year of the Turkish courts, which was held at the presidential palace complex in Ankara in the presence of Turkey President Recep Tayyip Erdogan.
HE the Chairman of the Supreme Judiciary Council (SJC) and President of the Court of Cassation Dr Hassan Lahdan Saqr al-Mohannadi represented the State of Qatar at the ceremony.
The ceremony was also attended by a number of senior Turkish officials, including Turkish Grand National Assembly Speaker Mustafa Sentop, Council of State president Zerrin Gungr, Constitutional Court president Zuhtu Arslan, Minister of Justice Abdulhamit Gul, and politicians, presidents of Turkish courts and tribunals, as well as representatives of a number of friendly countries.
The presence of Dr al-Mohannadi comes in the framework of the distinguished relations between the two brotherly countries in various fields, including the judicial field. In April, a delegation from the training centre for public prosecutors at the Turkish Ministry of Justice paid a five-day official visit to Doha, during which they held several meetings with officials of the Courts of Appeal and Discrimination.
The delegation discussed the academic activities and the work system in the field of the judiciary in Qatar and ways of exchanging expertise, especially in the areas of training and ways to use technology in justice management systems.
Dr al-Mohannadi also met senior officials of the Turkish judiciary, including Court of Cassation president Ismail Rustu Cirit, on the sidelines of the first meeting of the heads of the Supreme Courts of the Member States and the Organisation of the Islamic Conference held in Istanbul, Turkey, last December.
The Qatari-Turkish relations have gained momentum since 2014 following the signing of the establishment of a High Strategic Committee between the two countries to enhance co-operation between the two sides in many fields.
