The Indian Ministry of External Affairs awards 150 scholarships to children (studying in India) of Persons of Indian Origin/Non-Resident Indians (PIOs/NRIs) and Indian workers working in ECR countries yearly, where the gross monthly income of the parents is not more than $4000.
Under the SPDC, the Indian government would bear 75% of the total Institutional Economic Cost subject to a maximum of $4000, according to a statement issued by the embassy.
The following institutions are covered under the scheme:
l National Institutes of Technology (NITs), Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs), Schools of Planning and Architecture
l ‘A’ grade institutions accredited by the National Assessment and Accreditation Council and recognised by the University Grants Commission l Central universities of India
l Other institutions covered under the Direct Admission of Students Abroad (DASA) Scheme
Only first-year students will be eligible to get the scholarship. All eligible candidates may apply for the scholarship accordingly under the Scholarship Programme for Diaspora Children scheme.
