Qatar General Electricity and Water Corporation (Kahramaa) is set to sign contracts with an international company to upgrade its services, including the introduction of pre-paid meters and remote reading of meters.

This was announced by Kahramaa president Issa bin Hilal al-Kuwari in the presence of HE the Prime Minister and Interior Minister Sheikh Abdullah bin Nasser bin Khalifa al-Thani yesterday at the third edition of Najah Qatari (Qatari success) festival at the Doha Exhibition and Convention Centre.

HE the Prime Minister, along with the festival organising committee chairman Khalid bin Nasser al-Utaibi honoured the senior guests of the first session.

HE the Minister of Culture and Sports Salah bin Ghanem bin Nasser al-Ali, HE the Minister of Municipality and Environment Abdullah bin Abdulaziz bin Turki al-Subaie and other senior officials were present.

The first session (decision makers forum), hosted HE the Minister of State Ahmed bin Mohamed al-Sayed, who is also the chairman of Qatar Free Zones Authority, the Public Works Authority (Ashghal) president Saad bin Ahmed al-Mohannadi, Aspetar director general and Aspire Zone Foundation CEO Mohamed bin Khalifa al-Suwaidi, and Qatar Media City CEO Mohamed Badr al-Sada.  

The officials spoke about the challenges encountered throughout their professional lives and how they overcame them. They also briefed the audience about the key developments in their organisations.

HE al-Sayed said the free zones project aims at engaging young people and entrepreneurs to enter into partnership with international companies and economic entities. A number of applications have been received to set up joint projects among the public and the private sectors, and entrepreneurs.

The Qatar Free Zones Authority is keen to attract technology companies in different sectors and negotiations are on. He added that the infrastructure works at Um Al Houl and Abou Fentas free zones will be completed soon.

Al-Mohannadi said Ashghal is currently working on the Doha beautification project.

Al-Suwaidi pointed out that Aspire is set to launch first of its kind Sports Business Avenue by the last quarter of this year. The building is ready and agreements are to be signed with international companies. The project is in co-operation with Qatar Financial Centre, Qatar Development Bank, and the Ministry of Commerce and Industry.
