The Ministry of Education and Higher Education Tuesday announced amendments regarding the working hours and holidays for schools in the country for the next four academic years, according to the official website. 
The amendments were made by the ministry after HE the Minister of Education and Higher Education Dr Mohamed Abdul Wahed Ali al-Hammadi adopted the report by a committee that was designated for studying and amending the academic calendar from the year 2019-2020 to the year 2022-2023.
Working hours have been reduced to between 850 and 1,000 hours for primary schools. The revised academic calendar has fixed annual summer holidays for students as not less than 70 days. These holidays are in addition to the mid-year and mid-semester holidays. The amendment has given annual leave of 80 days for teachers. 
The average number of schooling days in these academic years has been changed to 185 as per the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) education standards.
The amendments, according to the website, were made by considering the needs and development of the educational sector in the country.
