Miss Universe 2018 Catriona Gray is open to becoming a military reservist after her reign.
“I’ll be open to it. I think there’s something you’ll definitely learn in giving back to your country,” she said in an interview with reporters at Camp Aguinaldo in Quezon City, where she paid a courtesy call on Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) Chief of Staff Gen Benjamin Madrigal Jr.
Asked what branch of the military she wants to join, Gray said she would have to determine where her strengths lie, which would be the basis of her choice.
In a brief ceremony, Madrigal presented the Command Plaque to Gray in recognition of her work and achievements and for “representing the best of the Filipino to the world.”
“You have served this country long before you attained your crown. With your character, dedication and passion, you have certainly inspired people to work harder in ending poverty and inequality,” Madrigal said.
The reigning Miss Universe bared that she and the AFP officials discussed her advocacies, especially on education for the youth and women empowerment.
Madrigal said Gray’s involvement in humanitarian activities displayed how a woman could create positive change.
“I have always felt great pride in representing our country and, although I may be called a representative of the Philippines, I am assured that every single member of the AFP is also a representative of our beautiful country,” Gray said.
