In the colours of Qatar Racing Limited, Kick On was back in the winner’s circle on Thursday following his first win at Group level in the Tattersalls Sovereign Stakes (Group 3) in Salisbury.
Trained by John Gosden, the bay colt won by a nose in front of Accidental Agent in the mile-long race for three-year-old and older colts and geldings.
The three-year-old broke smartly to sit up on the pace, making his move two furlongs from the line. He saw off a strong attempt from Flashcard, before battling through the final furlong with Accidental Agent to win in a photo finish under a strong ride from Oisin Murphy.
Accidental Agent, owned by Mrs RF Johnson Houghton and trained by Eve Johnson, was the runner-up under Charles Bishop. Flashcard, owned by The Kennet Valley Thoroughbreds II and saddled by Andrew Balding, finished third with Rob Hornby astride.
Kick On was stepping back down in trip here following a disappointing run in the Prix du Jockey Club (Group 1) over a mile and a quarter. Prior to this, he had won a listed race in Newmarket last April. He is by Charm Spirit, who stands under the Qatar Racing Stallions banner at Tweenhills Stud in England, and was bought as a yearling from Tattersalls Book 1.
