Awareness sessions and a cultural and arts fete Sunday marked the 'Mega Eid Al Adha Cultural Celebration for Expat Communities' programme by the Ministry of Interior (MoI) at Asian Town and Asian Accommodation City (Labour City) in Doha Industrial Area.
Thousands of expatriates from India, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Nepal, and Sri Lanka attended the programmes, held at the two locations.
MoI organised the event in order to reach out to the communities and help the labourers become aware of the rules and regulations in Qatar.
First Lieutenant Mubarak Shareeda al-Mutlaq from the Public Relations Department of the MoI said that the programmes are part of efforts by the ministry to enhance the relations between the communities and the government.
Tips were given to employees to ensure protection on roads and inside residential places. Awareness officials from Traffic, Al Fazaa Police, Civil Defence, Community Policing, Search and Follow up, Drugs Enforcement and Human Rights departments led the sessions.
Officers from Drugs Enforcement Department explained the measures to ensure protection from drug abuse and the precautions to be taken to bring medicines to Qatar. The workers were advised not to carry drugs that are not allowed in Qatar and get a proper prescription from a doctor for the permitted medicines.
Sunday's events were organised in collaboration with Indian Cultural Centre and sponsored by Ibn Ajyan projects, Naaas Group, Safari Mall, Grand Mall, Transind Group and Emco Qatar.
MoI has been organising cultural events and awareness programmes for the expatriate communities on various national occasions such as Eid al-Fitr, Eid al-Adha and Qatar National Day since several years.
