Civil Aviation Authority released its seventh edition of its semi-annual magazine Sama Qatar (Qatar's Sky) which covered a range of aviation-related topics.
The issue included an interview conducted by Oxford Business with HE the President of the Civil Aviation Authority Abdullah bin Nasser Turki al-Subaey.
The interview focused on topics such as the expansion of Hamad International Airport, which will begin in the second half of the year.
He said that the expansion will increase the airport's capacity from 30mn travellers, to 53mn travellers a year.
He also stressed that the authority is working on growing the aerial services provided and striking a number of bilateral agreements with more countries around the world.
These agreements would enhance the transportation network, and in turn increase the number of passengers going through Hamad International Airport.
He highlighted that the authority has enhanced its strategic ties with the International Civil Aviation Organisation (ICAO). He referenced the inauguration of Qatar's permanent office at the ICAO in Montreal, Canada, as the latest effort in enhancing ties.
He stressed that the move was an important step for the Qatari aviation industry, as it ensures its active participation in all ICAO initiatives.
He also said that it will help with the exchange of expertise between both sides, given the host of leading experts that ICAO has.
There was also an interview with Director of Meteorology Department Abdullah Mohamed al-Mannai, who revealed plans for a project to add 50 rain gauges that will be spread across the country.
He also discussed the department's commitment to developing national cadres through its Qatarisation plan.
He noted that 95% of those working in the department were Qatari nationals.
