Huawei, a leading global provider of information and communications technology (ICT) infrastructure and smart devices, has entered into a partnership with New Horizons Computer Learning Centre in Qatar to offer local communities a range of world-class training courses through the Huawei University and Academy.
The partnership between the two companies was signed by Huawei Qatar chief executive Frank Fan and Seham Hanafi, the general manager of New Horizons, marking the start of a multi-year collaboration.
Other officials from Huawei Qatar and New Horizons were present at the signing ceremony.
Students enrolled at New Horizons Computer Learning Centre will now have access to a range of courses from the Huawei University and Academy, earning certifications and qualifications in state-of-the-art IT technology and platforms.
The courses – which include advanced IP (Internet protocol), IT (information technology), Cloud Computing, Switching, Routing, IoT (Internet of Things), Big Data, 5G, and Network Security – will teach best practices and promote critical thinking, and develop creativity and innovation; components of realising the vision for an interconnected and digital world.
Huawei Qatar chief executive Fan said: “The Huawei University and Academy is our way of contributing to the development of future ICT (information and communications technology) talent around the globe, enabling them to drive the technological innovation that will lead us into a more intelligent world.
“Moreover, ICT education is not all about technical capabilities. It is about fostering ongoing collaboration between academia, students and the private sector, supporting the kind of lifelong learning that makes nations more prosperous in a global economy.” 
New Horizons’s Hanafi said: “There is an increasing need to ensure that the workforce of tomorrow is familiar and comfortable with the technologies that will power the smart future that Qatar is progressing towards.
“By partnering with Huawei, we are reinforcing our capability to provide students with top-class training opportunities that align with the breakthrough global technologies that are being adopted in the areas of smart city development, the Internet of Things, and more.” 
Huawei was one of the first technology firms to register with 100% ownership in Qatar.
In 2018, the company opened a new office at West Bay in Doha to help drive the development of Qatar’s ICT industry and support economic diversification in accordance with Qatar National Vision 2030.
