HE Sheikh Joaan bin Hamad al-Thani, President of the Qatar Olympic Committee, congratulated Algeria on its Africa Cup of Nations win through a tweet last night even as celebrations in Doha followed the North African team’s victory over Senegal in Cairo. Congratulations also poured in from Al Sadd, where Baghdad Bounedjah, the goalscorer for Algeria in the final, plays his club football, as well as from the Ministry of Culture and Sports. Led by members of the Algerian community in Qatar, a large number of people turned up at Ali Bin Hamad Al-Attiyah Arena to watch the live telecast of the final on giant screens.
