The Ministry of Municipality and Environment (MME) yesterday said a total of around 770 tonnes of local agricultural products were sold in June, according to a report by the official Qatar News Agency.
This was done through two initiatives of the MME: ‘Premium Qatari Vegetables’ and ‘Qatar Farms’. While the ‘Premium Qatari Vegetables’ programme recorded the sale of 199 tonnes of agricultural products in June, 570.5 tonnes of farm produce were sold through the ‘Qatar Farms’ initiative in the same period, the MME said in a statement.
The two programmes “received very good response from the public”, the ministry tweeted, noting that local agricultural products are available in all major hypermarkets and malls in Qatar.
The MME stressed that the two initiatives focus on improving the marketing of local produce by driving up demand and improving the income generated by Qatari farmers.
The ministry added that the programmes help boost investment in the agricultural field by providing a variety of produce in hypermarkets throughout the year.
The MME, along with the Ministry of Commerce and Industry, oversee programmes to market local produce.
