The patron of Indian Community Benevolent Forum (ICBF), Indian ambassador to Qatar P Kumaran, has nominated seven members for the ICBF advisory council for 2019-20.
Dr Mohan Thomas, who has served in many community organisations and is a prominent personality in the socio-cultural field among Indians in Qatar, was nominated as chairman of the advisory council.
Dr K Mohamed Easa, Abdul Latheef, K R G Pillai, Jaffer Thayyil, Irfan Hasan Ansari and Tina Fernandes, all well-known social workers, philanthropists and businesspersons, are the other members of the advisory council nominated by the patron.
The chairman and members of the council, along with ICBF president P N Baburajan and vice-president Mahesh Gowda met Kumaran and the chief co-ordinating officer (CCO), S R H Fahmi, at the Indian embassy recently.
The patron welcomed the gathering and impressed upon them the importance of the role of members in supporting the ICBF managing committee in solving various issues affecting the Indian diaspora in Qatar.
The patron called ICBF the “conscience” of the Indian community, where every Indian has a moral responsibility for supporting the weaker sections of the Indian community in Qatar.
Difficulties faced by Indians were discussed in detail and the patron emphasised that ICBF has always played a big role in assisting the embassy in solving the problems faced.
The patron took the opportunity to thank the government authorities in Qatar for their assistance and co-operation, which is praiseworthy.
Chairman Dr Thomas and the members put forward various suggestions to support the managing committee and agreed to convene a joint meeting of managing committee and advisory council in the presence of the patron and CCO in the near future, to plan the strategy of ICBF for the coming year.
