His Highness the Amir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad al-Thani will meet with President Donald Trump of the friendly United States of America at the White House in Washington DC on Tuesday, July 9.
During the meeting, the two leaders will discuss aspects to develop the existing strategic co-operation between Qatar and the US in various fields and exchange views on the latest developments in the region and the world.
The official visit of His Highness The Amir, which begins on Monday, July 8, will also include meetings with senior administration officials and members of Congress, as well as the signing of agreements and memorandums of understanding on defence, energy, investment and air transport.
Gulf Times adds: Earlier this week, the Charge d’Affaires and Chief of Mission at the US embassy in Doha, William Grant, said at a press conference that His Highness the Amir's visit to the US will be a “big one”.
“The visit will build on the longstanding relationship between the United States and Qatar and further strengthen the already substantial economic and security ties,” Grant said.
“The US-Qatar relationship has reached historic heights. Qatar has been a great friend and ally to the US in many ways and great things will be happening in the relationship,” he said.
The overall trade volume between both the countries in 2018 was $6bn. Over 120 American companies operate in Qatar, and US firms are involved in major projects associated with road, rail, seaport, airport, and stadiums across Qatar.
The diplomat said that the trade and commerce relationship between Qatar and the US was booming. “It has always been strong and it’s really getting very strong now. During the visit, we expect both leaders to announce some major commercial deals,” he said.
