His Highness the Amir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad al-Thani participated in the meetings of the General Assembly of the 134th session of the International Olympic Committee (IOC), held in Lausanne, Switzerland, on Monday.
The meetings discussed a number of topics on the agenda related to the development of sports and Olympics at the global level. The participants also voted the Italian cities of Milan and Cortina as the host of the 2026 Winter Olympics.
His Highness the Amir met with President of the International Olympic Committee Dr Thomas Bach, on the sidelines of the IOC General Assembly meetings.
At the outset of the meeting, the Amir congratulated Dr Bach on the occasion of the inauguration of the new headquarter of the International Olympic Committee "The Olympic House", which coincides with the 125th anniversary of founding of the committee.
Later His Highness the Amir tweeted, "The Olympic House in Lausanne is an icon that reflects the Olympics’ mission, legacy and values. Congratulations to for its new sustainable award winning HQ, and to our friends in for winning the bid to host the 2026 Winter Olympics in Milan & Cortina".


The meeting reviewed areas of co-operation between Qatar and the IOC and ways to promote them.
President of Qatar Olympic Committee HE Sheikh Joaan bin Hamad al-Thani attended the meeting.
