The Arab Finance Ministers’ emergency meeting started at the Arab League Secretariat headquarters, under the chairmanship of Tunisia, to discuss means to provide financial safety and support to the Palestinian Authority’s budget, QNA reported from Cairo.
This comes in the backdrop of the difficult situation imposed by the Israeli occupation authorities in deducting the amount paid to the families of Palestinian martyrs and prisoners from the proceeds of exclusive Palestinian funds, in violation of the 1994 Paris Agreement governing this relationship. The State of Qatar is taking part in the meeting with a delegation headed by HE Qatar’s Permanent Representative to the Arab League ambassador Ibrahim bin Abdulaziz al-Sahlawi.
The meeting is convened at the invitation of the Arab League secretary-general, in consultation and co-ordination with the Palestinian side to discuss the provision of a financial safety net to support the State of Palestine, in implementation of Arab Foreign Ministers’ emergency meeting held on April 12, and attended by Palestine President Mahmoud Abbas.
The Arab League Council affirmed in its closing statement the commitment of the Arab countries to support the budget of the State of Palestine, and to implement the decision of the Tunis summit to activate a financial safety net of  $100mn per month in support of Palestine, to face political and financial pressures.
