The Health Control Section of Al Wakrah Municipality seized and destroyed some 100kg of fish that was found unfit for human consumption.
The haul was destroyed after reaching the Al Wakrah fish market for auction as the veterinarians present there found signs of the fish going stale.
A press statement issued by the Ministry of Municipality and Environment noted that cases of fish being found unfit for consumption are a common occurrence during summer due to the high temperatures and for not putting enough ice in containers in order to preserve them.

A food inspection campaign

The Health Control Section at the Municipal Control Department of Al Daayen Municipality conducted 260 inspection tours in areas within its jurisdiction in May, resulting the issuance of four violation reports, the statement noted. The reports were issued for violating provisions of Law No 8 of 1990 on the Regulation of Human Food Control.
Inspections were carried out at caterers' kitchens, restaurants, consumer complexes and candy shops, and notices were issued to 55 establishments while affidavits were signed by some outlets pledging to make amends. Al Wakrah Municipality -- represented by the Municipal Control Department -- also conducted a drive to remove waste dumped by unknown persons in the Aba Saleel area. The campaign was implemented in co-operation with the General Cleanliness Department and a number of local companies, the statement added.
Meanwhile, the Municipal Control Department seized some trucks for discharging sewage water at undesignated locations in Al Wukair.
