Qatari newspaper, Al-Raya, hailed choosing Qatar as an observer member of the Latin American and Caribbean Parliament, saying that this is a confirmation of its diplomatic success in gaining new global confidence that enhances its role and its regional and international standing.

The newspaper said that Qatar's membership in this important regional system is of exceptional importance as it comes from international parliaments of deputies and representatives of peoples in these friendly countries.

Qatar is also the first country in the region to be chosen in an important parliamentary bloc, which includes representatives of the parliaments of 23 countries that represent a great political and economic weight, the paper said.

Al-Raya noted the importance of this new membership, which arises after the signing of a memorandum of understanding between the Shura Council and the Latin American and Caribbean Parliament, through which the two sides agreed to strengthen parliamentary cooperation and political exchanges to boost the bonds of friendship between Qatar and Latin American and Caribbean countries in order to overcome the blockade imposed on the State as well as to achieve peace among peoples.

This membership, is a new slap to the blockading countries through Qatar's presence on the world stage, which confirms that Qatar has won the confidence of parliaments throughout the world, the paper said.

Choosing Qatar as an observer member of Latin America and the Caribbean Parliament, the paper said, promotes parliamentary and political cooperation between Qatar and those countries that have strong political, economic and cultural relations with Qatar, and facilitates the exchange of parliamentary knowledge and experience in the legislative, supervisory and administrative fields. Qatar can also participate in the decision-making process, follow up events and coordinate with the Union, the paper added.

Al-Raya concluded by saying that this historic step reflects the success of our wise leadership's strategy towards expanding the base of international and regional relations and the diversification of blocs and strategic partnerships with countries that respect the principles of international law and the governing norms of relations between countries, stressing that this was the result of the Qatari-Latin relations, which witnessed a remarkable development in recent years through the mutual visits of His Highness the Amir and the presidents and officials of Latin American and Caribbean countries.
