Qatar participated in the 6th meeting of the United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Western Asia (ESCWA) Executive Committee, at the level of senior officials, which was held in the Moroccan city of Marrakesh with the participation of the UN member-states, representatives of the Arab League and several international and regional experts.
Director of International Co-operation Department at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, ambassador Tariq Ali Faraj al-Ansari, headed Qatar's delegation to the meeting. The delegation comprises diplomats and directors from both the Ministry of Administrative Development, Labour and Social Affairs and the Planning and Statistics Authority.
Participants during the meeting discussed aspects related to the achievement of sustainable development and the progress in achieving the international development goals in the Arab region, in accordance with ministerial decisions issued by the relevant ESCWA ministerial meetings.
The meeting also reviewed Qatar's successful strategies and experiences in the role of political decision-making in achieving comprehensive development in Qatar through, social spending, economic diversification, and the adoption of an ambitious development plan - Qatar National Vision 2030- , which is supported by the active international co-operation of the State led by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
The delegation of Qatar was also elected as one of the vice-chairmen of the ESCWA Executive Committee Meeting.
In a related context, the delegation of Qatar held a number of meetings, including a meeting with ESCWA Executive Secretariat, where they discussed ways to strengthen the existing partnership between the two sides, in accordance with the outcome of the 29th ESCWA Ministerial Session held in Doha in December 2016, and the partnership agreement reached during that session.
