Qatar Charity (QC), with the support of people in Qatar, has held two entertainment activities for orphans in Swat district of the Pakistani province Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Muzaffarabad, the capital of Pakistan-administered Kashmir, with 400 children participating in games, competitions and an awareness session.
The activities were held to bring joy to the participating children, develop their creativity, improve their skills, enhance their self-confidence and increase the effectiveness of their communication with others, QC said in a statement.
On this occasion, an awareness session on international hygiene standards was held to make the children pay attention to cleanliness and personal hygiene, and advise them to wash hands with soap before eating and after using toilets, and returning home from outside. Besides, hygiene kits and relevant pamphlets were distributed to them. Each kit included a soap, a shampoo, a comb, a nail clipper, a towel, a toothpaste and a brush.
The activities also included competitions in general knowledge, drawing, flying disc, tug-of-war, a 100m race and long jump. The children participated in these activities enthusiastically and were rewarded at the end, the statement noted. The orphans thanked their sponsors and Qatar Charity for organising the recreational activities for them, noting their positive impact.
In Pakistan, QC sponsors nearly 6,000 people, including 5,446 orphans, in addition to poor families, students, teachers and people with special needs. Through its Rofaqa initiative, QC has so far sponsored more than 156,000 orphans across the globe, making it the largest family of orphans in the world.
By the end of 2019, Qatar Charity aims to raise this number to 200,000 sponsored persons.
