The Public Works Authority (Ashghal) opened a new unidirectional tunnel on Industrial Area Road on May 30, providing motorists with a direct link towards Barwa City.
The two-lane new tunnel is located between Mesaimeer Interchange and the interchange known as Wadi Lubara on Industrial Area Road, and extends for 670m, Ashghal said in a press statement.
The tunnel directly connects to Street 1115 and delivers a "seamless, free-flowing link" for road users on Industrial Area Road - coming from Doha and heading towards Barwa City, the Religious Complex as well as several educational and residential facilities, the statement explained.
This opening provides vehicles with a new travel option that is more efficient than its former alternative, according to the authority.
Earlier, before the opening of the tunnel, road users had to make use of the interchange known as Wadi Lubara on Industrial Area Road, turn left towards Bu Samra Street and then right to get to Street 1115 and reach Barwa City.
Moving forward, motorists will be able to use the free-flowing new tunnel to reach their destinations, Ashghal has said.
