Qatar coach Felix Sanchez has trimmed the 28-member squad to 23 for the Copa America to be held in Brazil from June 14 to July 7.
Al Duhail duo of Ismael Mohamed and Sultan al-Brake were left out, while Abdulrahman Mohamed of Al Ahli, Musab Khater of Al Arabi and Abdul Aziz al-Ansari of Al Kharaitiyat were also excluded from the final squad.
The Qatar squad arrived in Rio de Janerio on Monday to acclimatise to the conditions and have been training at Porto Belo, a coastal town just not too far away from Rio. Asian champions Qatar will make their Copa America debut and are in Group B along with Argentina, Colombia and Paraguay. Qatar play their first match is against Paraguay on June 16 before taking Colombia on June 20 and Argentina on June 23.
Japan and Qatar are the two guest teams in the 12-team tournament that also features Brazil, Peru, Uruguay, Bolivia, Venezuela, Chile and Ecuador.
Sanchez’s men will lock horns with Brazil in a friendly match at the Mani Garincha Stadium in Brasilia on June 5. They will also play a closed-doors match against a Brazilian club side on June 9.
