HE the Minister of Education and Higher Education Dr Mohamed Abdul Wahed Ali al-Hammadi highlighted on Thursday the academic achievements of Qatar's students this year, adding that its impact will be reflected on the end-of-year exams.

The minister called on students who won competitions abroad to focus on being well-mannered as much as they focus on academic excellence, stressing that they will be very pleased when students pass the end-of-year exams with high grades.

HE the Undersecretary Ibrahim bin Saleh al-Nuaimi said, in a speech given on behalf of HE the minister, during a ceremony honouring 53 students who won in competitions abroad during the 2018-2019 academic, that their victory reflects the quality of the Qatari education system. He highlighted that the success of Qatar's students was greatly admired by all who witnessed it.

He added that winning a number of advanced rankings in the Intel International Science and Engineering Fair, which was held recently in the United States, is to be added to the long list of achievements made by Qatar's students in the current academic year. These achievements included winning four gold medals and two silver ones in an international competition in Malaysia at the beginning of this month, as well as winning third place at an international robotics competition that took place in Michigan in April, which is considered one of the biggest international competitions in the fields of research and innovation. A total of 108 teams from all around the world took part this year.

The minister also reviewed the many competitions won by Qatar's students this academic year, such as winning the bronze medal in the 15th International Junior Science Olympiad in Botswana. He highlighted that Qatar won the honour of becoming the first Arab country to host the competition, when it was chosen to host the 16th edition in Doha in December. That is in addition to the students' winning first place in Arab robotics competitions in Jordan and Kuwait.

The minister attributed the achievements of Qatar's students to the strong commitment and co-operation of all members of the educational process, starting with school principals and teachers who gave their all, to parents whom the minister praised for their role in keeping their kids motivated to excel academically.

He stressed that the Ministry of Education and Higher Education has a clear national strategy focused on preparing the Qatari citizen to become an active part of development, using all educational means in the process. He noted that scientific research and promoting it among students was one of the main pillars of the educational system.

HE al-Hammadi congratulated the winning students and their schools for their achievements.

HE Undersecretary of the Ministry of Education and Higher Education honoured the students who won prizes in the external scientific competitions for 2018-2019.

The winning students expressed thanks and appreciation for the wise leadership for providing them with educational opportunities and an academic climate that helped them to excel.
