Qatar University College of Engineering (QU-CENG) yesterday signed an MoU with Huawei Technologies Investment Co Ltd – Qatar, which will see the first Huawei Authorised Information and Network Academy (Haina) programme launched in Qatar.
The MoU was signed by QU-CENG dean Prof Abdelmagid Hammuda and Huawei Technologies CEO Frank Fan, in the presence of QU president Dr Hassan al-Derham, Huawei Technologies vice president Farhan Khan, Huawei representatives and QU leadership, faculty and staff.
Huawei will deliver its training and certification programmes to QU through Haina, while promoting QU as a training organisation to its students and customers base for Haina-based programmes and selected professional programmes according to QU’s capability and capacity.
Additionally, Huawei will provide Huawei Certification Academy Instructor (HCAI) training for professional instructors for each course direction.
QU will provide classroom and other teaching facilities to accommodate Huawei ICT equipment for the Haina programme, as well as professional instructors to become Huawei certified academy instructors.
The university will also add the Haina certification course as an extension course for the QU curriculums, liaise with local networking industry – in particular government entities and institutions – to promote and deliver Haina network training across a wider outreach of population in the ICT realm within Qatar, and work with Huawei to develop a training schedule that meets students’ needs.
Both parties will monitor the Haina programme and offer suggestions for continuous improvement, explore opportunities for alliances, and seek to address the ICT skills requirements within the Qatar ICT landscape.
Prof Abdelmagid Hammuda said: “Through this MoU, Qatar University CENG showcases its commitment to providing students with opportunities to heighten their skills and competencies and to enhance their knowledge in the field of information and communications technology. This opportunity will help students stay in close touch with technological advancements and innovations in China, and to interact with experts easily.

The Huawei academy will equip Qatari youth with the necessary skills and know-how to lead the country’s journey to become a knowledge-based society and support digital transformation in Qatar,” said Fan.
