Qatari adventurer Fahad Badar has made history by becoming the first Arab to scale Mt Everest and Mt Lhotse during the same expedition, the official Qatar News Agency reports.
This is the latest feat in a series of Qatari achievements across various fields, especially sports, the report states.
Commenting on the achievement through its official Twitter account, the Ministry of Culture and Sports said Badar is the second Qatari to scale Mt Everest, and the first Arab to reach the two peaks on the same trip.
Badar made history when he reached Mt Everest (the highest peak in the world) along with 30 others and Lhotse, (the fourth-highest mountain in the world) within 24 hours of his ascend of the world's tallest peak.
Hailing the achievement, Supreme Committee for Delivery & Legacy secretary-general Hassan al-Thawadi, tweeted: "Congratulations to @Fahadbadar on the incredible achievements of climbing Mount Everest and also becoming the first Arab to reach the peak of Mount Lhotse alongside Mariam Ktiri from Morocco. Fahad took a break at the summit to fly the flag for 2022!"
On his part, Badar thanked HE the Minister of Culture and Sports Salah bin Ghanem bin Nasser al-Ali for his greetings and continued support for youth initiatives in Qatar.
