One person died and 37 people were injured in a tourist bus crash on a highway near Siena on Wednesday, Italian health authorities said.
Italian news reports identified the deceased as a 40-year-old female tour guide from Russia, who was leading a group of more than 60 tourists.
On Twitter, firefighters said they extracted the body of a woman and four survivors from the wreckage. Pictures showed the bus lying sideways in a ditch after having crashed through a guardrail.
A spokeswoman for the Russian embassy in Rome told Russian state news agency TASS that the body had yet to be identified and that Russian diplomats had been sent to the site.
The embassy also said the bus was operated by an Italian company that works with tourists from Russia and former Soviet countries, and that 12 Russians and two Armenians were among the injured.
The bus crashed and overturned near the town of Monteriggioni, for reasons that are still under investigation, Italy's highways agency ANAS said in a statement.
Tuscany's regional health authority said in its statement that out of 37 people who were hurt, 33 suffered light injuries and four were in serious, but not life-threatening, condition.
