Qatar Chamber (QC) has discussed solutions to a number of obstacles facing private sector investment in education, and ways to facilitate the procedures related to the Ministry of Administrative Development, Labour and Social Affairs in this regard.
During a meeting held by the Education Committee at the Chamber today, chaired by First Vice-President of the Chamber, Mohamed bin Ahmed bin Towar al-Kuwari, the participants discussed the obstacles facing private schools, foremost among which was the recent issuance of a circular by the Ministry of Education and Higher Education that age of principal of a school should not exceed 55 years.
Participants stressed that the ministry’s decision, which was to be implemented immediately, had affected work in schools that already had contracted teachers who do not meet the condition, noting that there are other obstacles related to the appointment of teachers and obtaining the approvals required by the Ministry of Education.
A number of other topics were also discussed, including the issuance of work permit approvals, the relationship between employees and school owners and the mechanism of approving employment contracts according to the ministry’s model, suggesting more facilities for issuing visas to teachers.
Fahd Zahir al-Dosari, Director of Labour Inspection Department at the Ministry of Administrative Development, Labour and Social Affairs, stressed the ministry’s keenness to facilitate procedures and solve all obstacles facing private schools and its readiness to provide any support for the Education Committee at Qatar Chamber to perform its duties in the service of education in the country.
He also promised to convey all the observations of the members of the Education Committee to the relevant departments at the ministry, to be discussed in order to reach solutions, stressing the keenness of the Ministry of Administrative Development and Labour and Social Affairs to facilitate everything within its competence related to this sector.
