HE the Minister of Education and Higher Education, Dr Mohamed Abdul Wahed Ali al-Hammadi stressed that the educational leaders need to review and evaluate their work periodically, in recognition of the great responsibility placed on the ministry, and its duty to work on achieving the aspirations of the wise leadership.
In a speech during the annual Ramadan meeting held by the Ministry of Education and Higher Education, the minister called on everyone to work efficiently, create more innovative development initiatives, reward positive practices, delegate powers, practise transparency and accountability, promote equal opportunities and focus on concrete results and outputs, and develop a culture of planning, action and achievement in the educational environment.
On the occasion of the end of the academic year, he expressed hope that Qatar's students will achieve better results in the second semester exams. HE al-Hammadi said the ministry relies heavily on exam results because they are indicative of the effectiveness of the school efforts and the efficiency of the educational system.
The results also reflect the extent to which the ministry achieved its vision of providing innovative and high quality learning opportunities to the Qatari community and the effectiveness of its role in achieving the goals and objectives of the Qatar National Vision 2030, especially with regard to the human development pillar.
He also stressed the importance of the school's interaction with parents, and how to communicate with them, and the best ways to integrate its role with the home and with other partners. HE al-Hammadi added that addressing poor performance at all levels is also the responsibility of the ministry, pointing out that efforts must be redoubled to achieve greater success to meet the aspirations of the leadership, especially concerning quality in education.
He praised the achievements of the schools and students of Qatar during the current academic year at local, regional and international levels.
The minister honoured school principals that have completed 30 years in service, as a recognition for their services to the country and in preparing future generations. He also honoured schools that ranked first in international tests (TIMSS, PISA, PIRLS) at the state level, which is part of the evaluation system that allows students to compare performance of Qatar's students with the performance of students in other countries.
The minister also honoured schools with very good assessment in the academic performance evaluation for the academic year 2018-2019, which is an assessment based on scientific, methodological and objective criteria, through which these schools were able to obtain honourable results in the components of the school evaluation.
