The Follow-up Committee of the National Traffic Safety Committee held a meeting with representatives of Qatar Transportation and Traffic Safety Centre at Qatar University, chaired by HE the Undersecretary of the Ministry of Education and Higher Education, and Chairman of the Committee, Dr Ibrahim bin Saleh al-Nuaimi.
Attendees of the meeting stressed the importance of the role of the Follow-up Committee in reviewing the achievements made by the authorities concerned and ministries in implementing the National Road Safety Strategy, and in determining challenges and finding solutions to move forward in activating the plans aimed at achieving the objectives of traffic safety in Qatar.
The participants also highlighted the important role of QU Qatar Transportation and Traffic Safety Centre in conducting research that contributed effectively and greatly to making radical changes that raised the level of traffic safety in the country.
They called upon all bodies and ministries to complete their plans emanating from the National Road Safety Strategy, noting that the role of the Committee is to maintain the progress of the process and overcome the obstacles.
In addition, they stressed the need to review the plans and determine the priorities by focusing on the plans of impact, as well as the importance of integrating the efforts of all ministries and stakeholders through investing the research issued by the centre and refer them to the competent authority, in order to achieve effective results to raise the level of traffic safety in Qatar.
The Follow-up Committee issued several recommendations, urging all parties to implement the National Road Safety Strategy through participating in the workshops and conferences held by Qatar Transportation and Traffic Safety Centre, and implementing the research on traffic safety after referral to the authority concerned, and facilitating the work of researchers and providing them with the necessary data for research.
The team of Qatar Transportation and Traffic Safety Centre shed light on the achievements of the centre, including the study of the specifications of the methods of separation on the roads and the intermediate islands, the project of the annual statistical study on the state of traffic safety in Qatar, as well as the study of children car seats available in the local market and subject them to experiments in the collision laboratory in the centre in co-operation with the Hamad International Training centre.
The team noted that the centre carried out two training courses in traffic safety in 2018 and that it is announcing two more training courses this year, specifically in September and November.
The courses will be attended by specialists in the field of road safety from the relevant government agencies.
The centre has also launched a driving simulation laboratory to conduct traffic accident studies, in addition to other related events and projects.
