Abdulla al-Tamimi is not just Qatar’s top ranked squash player; he’s also one of the driving forces behind the country’s ambitious potential in the sport. The Aspire Academy graduate has taken a step towards fulfilling his vision, launching ATA Sports academy.
The launch was attended by several influencers and key figures, including the Director of Education and Student Affairs at Aspire Academy Badr al-Hay as well as High Jump world champion Mutaz Barshim. 
Al-Tamimi also played a friendly match of squash with Barshim.  
According to al-Tamimi, ATA Sports is formed with the idea of offering a “new approach” to Qatar’s sports communities. The academy’s mission is to create a platform that would allow the youth to explore and develop their skills. The organisation’s collective experience entails Squash, Tennis, Karate, Gymnastics, Swimming and Yoga.  
“I was happy to be there and support my friend Abdulla, the idea of creating a sports academy and spread the sport that he loves is amazing, and I think it will have a good impact on the society,” said Barshim. This comes after an outstanding 2018 season for al-Tamimi. The 24-year-old broke into the top 30 and achieved a career-best ranking of 24th.
