*Kahramaa completes all its electricity projects covering FIFA 2022 World Cup Stadiums

The Qatar General Electricity and Water Corporation - Kahramaa has opened and energised Ras Abu Abboud Two sub-station successfully, it was announced on Wednesday.

With the commissioning of the sub-station, Kahramaa has completed all its electricity projects covering FIFA 2022 World Cup Stadiums. The substation will supply electricity to Ras Abu Aboud Stadium, one of the venues.

In a statement, Kahramaa said Ras Abu Aboud Two is the last facility of the five major sub-stations that were constructed and commissioned to energise FIFA 2022 World Cup stadiums. The works of the sub-station with the capacity of 66/11KV was completed at a total cost of QR93mn and it was constructed as part of the 12th phase of Qatar Power Transmission System Expansion Network. The project was awarded in the first quarter of 2018.

The station will supply 80MVA electricity from four transformers with a capacity of 40MVA, each equipped with 66/11KV. The sub-station is adjoined with Ras Abu Aboud station through the cable of 66KV with a total length of 450m. It was developed by Siemens Global while cables connecting the sub-station with the feeder were produced by the Doha Cables, a Qatari company.

American company GE carried out communication works and connected the station to the control systems at the National Control Centre of Kahramaa. Kahramaa has so far assigned many works to local companies.

In co-operation with the Supreme Committee for Delivery and Legacy (SC), Kahramaa followed the highest standards of reliability in its electricity networks in accordance with the international standards, terms and conditions that are required for stadium projects. Kahramaa has added an enhanced protection system with the project.

According to the statement, Ras Abu Aboud TWO sub-station’s works were completed without delay, injuries and accidents. The corporation also ensured highest standards of appropriate working and living conditions for workers which positively impacted their performance.

Apart from Ras Abu Abboud Two sub-station, Kahramaa has energised and commissioned five sub-stations for FIFA 2022 World Cup stadiums with a total cost of QR800mn. It has achieved 100% of all electricity projects of FIFA 2022 at Mehairja sub-station that will feed Khalifa International Stadium, Al Wukair One sub-station to feed Al Wakra Stadium, Al Shahaniyah Three sub-station to feed Al Rayyan Stadium and Al Hedhan sub-station to feed Al Bayt Stadium.
