Aspire Zone Foundation (AZF) has announced the start of its annual Ramadan Sports Festival, which will take place from Wednesday until May 17.

The festival will feature a raft of events and tournaments with a focus on giving participants an opportunity to improve their overall health.

"One type of exercise that is often overlooked but whose benefits are wide-ranging is walking. It is a low-impact exercise accessible for people with all fitness levels, does not require additional equipment and can be practised across many different venues and terrains. Doctors recommend walking 10,000 steps a day to avoid many chronic diseases, such as heart disease, diabetes and obesity," AZF said in a statement.

Aspire Dome will organise walking sessions that will take place before Iftar from 3pm to 5pm, and will be led by Aspire Zone trainers. Two sessions will take place during that time lasting 45 minutes each, with the first session starting at 3.15pm.

Walking enthusiasts will be able to burn around 200-250 calories having walked an estimated 840 steps per round. Participants will be encouraged to complete six rounds, which equates to 5,000 steps.

Interested participants can enter from Aspire Dome’s back entrance, the one facing Hamad Aquatic centre.

This year, the Ramadan Sports Festival will be sponsored by Saleh Al Hamad Al Mana Co, Aseel Water and EsQalar Sports.
