Katara – the Cultural Village participated in a workshop on the cultural diplomacy in Istanbul, Turkey. The workshop was attended by delegations from International Public Diplomatic Network (IPDN) member-states - Qatar, Philippines, Mexico, South Korea, Taiwan, Nigeria, Hungary, Mozambique and Turkey.
Visual presentations reviewed the projects and programmes launched by some member countries in the cultural diplomacy, and highlighted their role in preserving the cultural elements and reviving the heritage and popular traditions and passing them on to future generations according to plans and methods that entrench pride in their national identity.
Darwish Ahmad al-Shaibani, director, marketing and cultural affairs at Katara, who is also secretary-general of IPDN, highlighted the objectives of Katara and its mission and projects which aim to build human capacities and care for creative talents of different nationalities and cultures.
He pointed out that about 120 nationalities live in Qatar and speak different languages.
“Katara has achieved great success in launching pioneering cultural initiatives in the region that contribute to fostering all forms of creative work and supporting talented people, making it a global cultural beacon that reflects Qatar’s cultural radiance and translates its cultural mission into the world, bridging of communication and rapprochement between cultures and peoples,” he added.
Darwish expressed his pleasure that Qatar’s presidency of IPDN is of great importance in embodying an international cultural gathering that includes many countries, and it plays an important role in the future of culture in the world, since culture is a shared responsibility to build a strong an effective system for a successful network that will achieve greater convergence and openness.
