The Ministry of Education and Higher Education and the Ministry of Administrative Development, Labour and Social Affairs have announced the government scholarship plan for the academic year 2020/2019 and explained their role in implementing them in light of the two Amiri decisions.
Abdullah Musallam al-Dosari, assistant undersecretary at the administrative affairs of ministry, highlighted the importance of scholarship programme in response to the directives that Qatari youth should pursuit all disciplines. This is in addition to the state’s efforts to enable the youth to work in all sectors through implementing scholarship plans and providing recruitment, training and development
opportunities.
Al-Dosari said the scholarship programme aims to train Qataris to meet the needs of the labour market, pointing out that the total number of scholarships comes to 4,171 students who are currently studying, since the programme launched in 2015.
He said touched on the most targeted disciplines which are part of the scholarship plan that includes 1,942 scholarships offered for bachelor courses, specialised diplomas and other specialisations.
He said that the ministry’s mission is to develop the general policy of scholarship and co-ordination with government agencies based on their needs.
He said the major disciplines include supply chain management, airport management, aviation management, logistics management, airport and aviation security, medicine, agriculture, livestock and fisheries, statistics and vital statistics, veterinary medicine, teacher education, computer science, information, science, laboratory and standardisation, and Spanish, German, Italian, Turkish, Russian, French and Japanese law as well as international relations in the same languages, translation
 and engineering.
Dr Khalid al-Ali, acting undersecretary for higher education affairs at the Ministry of Education and Higher Education, said the scholarship plan will benefit a lot of students and fulfil the needs of the state in the coming years.
Dr al-Ali said the scholarships help in developing skills and capacities and empowering the young leaders to achieve the proper concept of
development.
He said that the Ministry of Education and Higher Education will provide guidance on the scholarships to students, whereas the Ministry of Administrative Development, Labour and Social Affairs will prepare the general policy for scholarships and co-ordinate with government agencies to prepare their scholarship plans in light of their needs and then send them to the Ministry of
Education.
He said a committee will review other criteria which allow adding universities from East Asia, for example on the list of approved educational institutions.
For his part, Ali al-Buainain, director, the scholarship department at the ministry, said the registration for scholarship will be available through the website of the Ministry of Education and Higher Education.
Saleh al-Muftah, director, admissions and registration in the scholarship department, said the registration will begin on July 30 and will continue throughout the academic year, so that students can apply through the link https://scholarship.edu.gov.qa/ with the required
documents electronically.
The priority of approving a study mission outside Qatar was that the targeted disciplines were not available in educational institutions within the country. He said the terms of scholarship for the Academic Bridge Programme and the Amiri scholarship, are available on the ministry’s website, as well as the terms of scholarship for the Qatari women’s children, carriers of Qatari documents, and Qatar-born children.
