Senate aspirant and former special assistant to the President (SAP) Christopher Lawrence “Bong” Go said yesterday he wants to help ensure the country’s food security through improved agricultural productivity and better food distribution channels.
“First and foremost, enough food within their means is what I would want every Filipino to have; nutritious sustenance for your children to make them grow into healthy productive members of society,” Go said at the campaign rally at the Manatal gymnasium here.
Go, who identified agriculture and food security among the priorities of his legislative agenda, said his goal could be achieved by helping farmers increase their productivity.
He said farmers should be given access to farm inputs, such as irrigation systems, machinery, fertilisers, seeds and loans at low-interest.
The former SAP would also propose for the establishment of more Tien DA Malasakit stores in major cities nationwide so that people could directly purchase from farmers and fishers, fresh produce at lower prices.
Go said more cold storage have to be established in food terminals in the regions to help keep the harvest fresh and prevent spoilage.
He would also bat for the conduct of free skills training and seminars on agri-entrepreneurship to open new livelihood opportunities for farmers to augment their income and tide them over during lean times.
“Agriculture is very important to our economy and many families, especially in the countryside depends on it. Let us not waste our natural resources. By supporting the agricultural sector, we can help uplift the lives of our farmers,” he said.
The former SAP expressed his gratitude to the people of Bulacan for their support, as residents spilled out into the streets in spite of the heat to wait for his motorcade as it made its way to Bocaue, Pulilan, Plaridel, Malolos City and the town of Pandi.
Go said he served President Rodrigo Duterte faithfully for 21 years, the people could be assured that he would never waver in his firm support for the president’s programmes and policies so that the scourge of corruption, criminality and drugs would be eventually be eradicated.
