Qatar Research, Development and Innovation Council convened a meeting to discuss ways to strengthen the research, development and innovation sector and to advance the national march of Qatar in this field.

The Council includes HE the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of State for Defence Affairs Dr Khalid bin Mohammed al-Attiyah, as Chairman; HE Sheikha Hind bint Hamad al-Thani, Vice Chairperson and CEO of Qatar Foundation for Education, Science and Community Development as Vice President; and Omar Ali al-Ansari as Secretary General as well as a number of prominent government departments leaders, representatives of the relevant authorities in research, development and innovation.

The meeting reviewed the current status of the research, development and innovation system in Qatar and the legislative and regulatory frameworks that support them.

HE Dr al-Attiyah said, "In order to achieve our national goals of self-sufficiency and diversity, we will continue to build and strengthen our national capacities, and a clear strategic plan for research, development and innovation will enable us to promote the country's economic prosperity. It will also allow us to find innovative solutions to challenges at the national-level. "

HE Sheikha Hind said, "Through our establishment and hosting of Qatar's the research, development and innovation that sponsors the national strategy for research, development and innovation, and co-ordinates national joint plans of actors, Qatar has come a long and successful way over the past decade to lay the groundwork for comprehensive infrastructure for research, development and innovation, to enable us to achieve tangible and positive results at the social and economic levels."

HE Sheikha Hind added, "Our leadership has invested in the development of local talent, and we have begun to reap the benefits of this investment as a sustainable and diversified knowledge economy becomes a reality for Qatar, where the research, development and innovation sector plays a pivotal role in Qatar's continued progress and prosperity for future generations. This sector plays an essential role in enabling our nation to achieve its goals and vision.”

The Council's members discussed the prospects and aspirations for the research, development and innovation by highlighting the Council's vision to enhance the resilience and prosperity of Qatar's economy, the importance of enabling relevant research and development efforts and innovation at the national level and ways to strengthen communication with all international research institutions development and innovation at the global level. There was also a detailed discussion of many of the desired and specific objectives to achieve this.

The objectives include the provision of innovative solutions through technological research and innovation to address the most pressing challenges faced by Qatar and accelerate the economic boom in the State by developing and launching advanced solutions, particularly in terms of improving competitiveness in the country's major economic sectors, based on research, development in order to provide more opportunities for promising generations of Qataris.

The Council seeks to develop a unified national strategy, in co-ordination with key stakeholders at the local and international levels, as well as to monitor the performance of the national sector for research, development and innovation, and to make recommendations on appropriate policies in this regard.
