The Ministry of Interior confirmed that all security departments have put in place the necessary arrangements and procedures in preparation for the holy month of Ramadan to ensure the provision of all services to the public and the maximum level of security and safety.
The ministry said it is keen on intensifying its efforts according to the security requirements.
Ramadan is an occasion that requires a double effort, especially during the peak hours of the holy month, whether in traffic, security or civil defence.
The geographical security departments have set all the necessary security arrangements and procedures in preparation for the holy month of Ramadan to guarantee the provision of all services to citizens and residents in the geographical scope of each department through conducting security patrols in various streets to prevent any violations and protect the members of the community from any risks.
The security departments also patrol to maintain security and work for the welfare of the residential neighbourhoods within the competence of each administration in order to provide maximum security and reduce the chance of crime.
As for the traffic, the General Directorate of Traffic has made all necessary preparations to enable officers to co-operate with the concerned authorities to ensure the traffic flow and remove any bottlenecks which may occur at peak times.
In addition, the directorate will organise an awareness campaign during Ramadan aimed at educating road users to reduce accidents occurring due to congestion on some roads during the pre-breakfast period specifically.
The campaign aims to raise awareness of traffic safety requirements among all segments of the society.
Director of Media and Traffic Awareness Department Colonel Mohamed Radhi al-Hajri stressed that a systematic plan aims at achieving traffic safety through public awareness about speed limits, the use of seat belts, parking reserved for people with disabilities and the use of phone while driving.
He revealed that the department will organise several events during Ramadan, such as the religious exhibition of publications in co-operation with the Ministry of Awqaf and Islamic Affairs, which is held at the main hall of the General Directorate of Traffic, adding that there are activities such as Iftar for truck drivers, visiting family councils, Iftar for communities, and Iftar for the elderly in Ehsan centre, as well as awareness lectures for civil servants.
Col. al-Hajri further added that during the celebration of Garangao, which is a fun and joyful heritage event for children, the department will send simple awareness messages to children, accompanied by symbolic gifts of traffic significance to instil traffic awareness among the new generation, in addition to organising exhibitions aimed at educating families in markets and commercial complexes.
The directorate will increase traffic patrols in the streets surrounding the compounds, commercial areas, and markets, in addition to increasing patrols in the Corniche area to cope with high traffic congestion caused by some gatherings during the pre-Iftar period.
Also, the Rescue Police Department's (Al Fazaa) security patrols will be working around the clock to maintain security and order and to prevent anything that might harm the security and safety of the homeland and the citizen.
Director of Al Fazaa Major Naif bin Faleh al-Thani explained that Al Fazaa will intensify patrols in all areas of the country during peak hours, especially before Iftar, and after Taraweeh prayer, in the markets to achieve rapid response to any emergency that may occur.
He added that Al Fazaa patrols will distribute dates and water bottles as a form of social communication with the public so that the drivers do not have to rush for Iftar.
The Community Policing Department is preparing to launch a number of activities during Ramadan, in order to enhance communication with the various state institutions and to strengthen co-operation and community partnership to achieve the goals and objectives.
Director of the Community Policing Department Col. Sultan Mohamed al-Kaabi said that the department aims to reduce the crime and negative phenomena as well as raise awareness of the community regarding the security and safety procedures in public places and develop the sense of security and spirit of co-operation and responsibility shared between the police and members of the community.
Head of the External Branch at the Community Policing Department Colonel Ghanim Saad al-Khayarin said that the department has established a working team to implement the Ramadan programmes and activities, in order to raise awareness of the dangers of crime and negative phenomena, as well as organising awareness tours in co-ordination with the security departments, visiting patients in hospitals, youth centres, sports clubs and owners and attendees of shops and commercial complexes.
Additionally, Head of media and awareness section at the Directorate General of Civil Defence Capt.
Jabir Mohamed al-Marri said that the directorate will also organise awareness campaigns throughout the holy month.
He pointed to some of the risks that may be related to Ramadan, stressing the role of housewives in following safety guidelines and caution against the dangers of common domestic accidents in the holy month.
He stressed the necessity to inspect the stoves and the ovens and ensure that they are clean, stressing the importance of the availability of all household safety tools and knowledge of how to use it, such as fire extinguishers, smoke detectors, gas safety valve and adequate ventilation at home as well as emergency exit and fire blanket.
He pointed out that the presence of several electrical wires for more than one device in one location may lead to the risk of fire because of the possibility of an electrical contact between the wires, which threatens the outbreak of fire, noting that the fire caused by electrical causes is one of the most serious accidents that have significant negative effects.
Assistant Director of the Central Operations Department Major Abdullah al-Hail said that his department is responsible for dealing with all communications around the clock throughout the year.
