The Fashion Promotion Class at Virginia Commonwealth University School of the Arts in Qatar (VCUarts Qatar), in collaboration with the Indian embassy, is holding an ongoing exhibition that ends on Sunday on the versatile fabric khadi as part of Qatar-India 2019 Year of Culture.
The textile is popular among young designers from across South Asia because it is sustainable, environmentally-friendly, robust, and adaptable.
The Fashion Promotion Class, which includes students from the graphic design and fashion design programmes at VCUarts Qatar, as well as students from Northwestern University in Qatar, has rebranded the cloth khadi from India as a special class project.
The students took the challenge to make the cloth of khadi more relevant for consumers and to reposition it.
The results of their work are on display at Room 390iii. The exhibition is open to the public and entry is free. The timing from is 11am to 6pm.
