The Qatar Stock Exchange (QSE) has announced Ooredoo as the winner of the QSE Corporate Challenge at the Qatar Cyclists-organised Ooredoo Ride of Champions.
Ooredoo narrowly beat Mannai Corp to take victory in the inaugural QSE Corporate Challenge that aimed to inspire QSE-listed companies to encourage their employees to practice sports and lead healthy lifestyles.
The Ooredoo Ride of Champions is the “biggest cycling mass-participation event in Qatar and the pinnacle of community events organised by Qatar Cyclists”, a press statement noted.
It saw more than 1,500 cyclists of all ages and experience levels take part in this year’s event hosted by Qatar Foundation earlier this year.
The Corporate Challenge consisted of two categories in its first edition, both of which saw Ooredoo take victory.
The QSE Corporate Challenge Health Champion Award was won by Ooredoo, which narrowly beat Mannai Corp
The award, which aims to encourage companies to get members of its staff and their families to participate in the event for any distance, whether it is for kids, the family ride (on closed roads in QF), or the open road short (48km), medium (78km) and long (137.5km) events.
The QSE Corporate Challenge Speed Champions Award is presented to the company with the fastest adult team.
The results of this were calculated by determining the QSE-listed company with the fastest average speed for its four fastest riders over any of the open road distances: short (48km), medium (78km) and long (137.5km). This was also won by Ooredoo with a team average of 27.87km per hour, closely followed by Mannai Corp with a team average speed of 23.72.
Fahad AlSuwaidi, QSE PR and Communication manager who presented the awards, said: “We would like to congratulate Ooredoo on their victory and thank all the participants in this first challenge. 2019 was a pilot for the Corporate Challenge and we look forward to hopefully working with the organisers in 2020 to build it into an event that sees all listed companies participate in a programme to prepare for the event and contest the award, along with the wider corporate community in Qatar.”
Manar Khalifa al-Muraikhi, director of PR and Corporate Communications at Ooredoo, said: “We were thrilled to be the title sponsor for this exciting event. We were exceptionally pleased and proud to see it such a roaring success, with hundreds of entrants – including Ooredoo’s cycling team, who did very well winning both categories in the inaugural Qatar Exchange Awards – and everyone, from young families to seasoned cyclists, taking part.”
Dr Abdulaziz Alkuwari, president of Qatar Cyclists, noted: “We would like to thank the QSE for their support as both the overall event partner and lead partner for the Corporate Challenge. Over the coming years, we hope that together we can encourage even more corporate to participate in the event and help us further grow the event.”
Ali M Alkuwari, managing director of the Ooredoo Ride of Champions, added: “We hope that through their support we can grow the event to 2020 participants in 2020.”
