HE Sheikha Hind bint Hamad al-Thani, Vice Chairperson and chief executive officer of Qatar Foundation (QF), yesterday attended the 14th graduation ceremony of Awsaj Academy, part of QF’s Pre-University Education (PUE).
In the biggest graduating class to date, 47 students were honoured in the ceremony that took place at the Awsaj Academy auditorium in Education City, bringing the total number of graduates up to 206 since the establishment of the
institution.
Additional attendees included Buthaina A al-Nuaimi, president of PUE, QF; members of PUE management and the board of governors; distinguished guests; parents; staff; faculty members; and other members of the QF community.
Al-Nuaimi, as the keynote speaker, encouraged students to invest the knowledge they acquired during their time at Awsaj Academy to contribute to the vision of Qatar, while forging a path for themselves in their careers.
“Remember that the journey of learning does not end with receiving a certificate or a degree. You should continue to pursue knowledge and acquire skills at various levels, and in different fields, throughout your life. It is necessary that you benefit from what you have learned during your time at Awsaj Academy, not only to build your futures, but also as citizens who seek to secure a bright future for the coming generations.
“You are now at a crossroads to decide the direction your life will take. Work hard, embrace your cultural ethics, obey the Prophet Muhammad (PBUH), and serve your homeland. Remember that with hard work, success will always follow you. Therefore, choose your path and set your goals wisely in order to meet your country’s expectations, because Qatar deserves the best from its citizens.”
Fahad al-Subaiey, chairman, Awsaj Academy Board of Governors; Mark Hughes, director, Awsaj Academy; and William Vue, principal, High School, awarded the diplomas to the students.
Hughes said, “That trapeze bar is called transition and today it has the names of all of you graduates etched onto it. Those transitional moments in our lives are incredibly rich places. They should be honoured, anticipated with joyfulness, hope, and optimism, because even with all the anxiety, uncertainty and the very natural fears that can accompany them, these are profound moments of excitement, anticipation and hopefulness, because all things are possible in this magical and wondrous journey through life.”
“The path has not always been smooth but you have learned to make the most of the opportunities, persisted through the difficult times, and are ready for what lies ahead,” Vue noted.
Sufyan Khan is this year’s valedictorian, while Areej al-Kaabi and Ghanim al-Shaabi are this year’s salutatorians.
