The Internal and External Affairs Committee of the Advisory Council held a meeting of the 47th regular session of the Council yesterday, chaired by its Rapporteur Abdulla bin Fahad Ghorab al-Marri.
During the meeting, the committee continued its review on the draft law on fire works, in the attendance of Director of Legal Affairs Department at the Ministry of Interior Brigadier Salem Saqr al-Muraikhi and head of the explosives and toxins section in the Forensic Lab Department at the Ministry of Interior Lieutenant Colonel Fahad bin Salman al-Mamari.
The committee decided to continue its review in its next meeting.  The committee also continued its review on draft law amending certain provisions of Decree Law No 14 of 1993, regarding passports and decided to continue its review in its next meeting.

First-ever ‘Workers Fun Run’ tomorrow at Aspire Park
The first ever Qatar ‘Workers Fun Run’ will take place in Doha tomorrow at Aspire Park from 8am, according to a statement from the International Labour Organisation (ILO) Project Office for Qatar.
Organised by the Ministry of Administrative Development, Labour and Social Affairs (MADLSA), the ILO and the Netherlands embassy the 5km run brings together migrant workers from many sectors in a fun and unique event that promotes togetherness and good health.
HE the Minister of Administrative Development, Labour and Social Affairs Yousef bin Mohamed al-Othman Fakhro will flag off the run. The course runs through the park with the start/finish point close to the Aspire Park Café.
“This event recognises workers and their great contribution to the development of modern-day Qatar. We plan for it to become an annual event of recognition,” said Mohamed Hassan al-Obaidly, assistant undersecretary for Labour Affairs, MADLSA.
While participation in the ‘Workers Fun Run’ is mainly limited to workers from companies representing various sectors, members of the public are encouraged to come along and cheer on the runners.
“The community event encourages people from all backgrounds and walks of life to come together and celebrate the importance of unity and diversity. Having a big crowd come and cheer on the runners will be of great value and meaning, and is an excellent way to mark together International Worker’s Day (May 1),” said the Netherlands ambassador Bahia Tahzib-Lie.
The Workers Fun Run will also help raise awareness of the ongoing labour reforms in Qatar, it was explained in the statement.
“Qatar and the ILO are working closely together to implement an ambitious labour reform agenda. The run provides the ideal opportunity to celebrate the positive changes that have taken place so far. It also marks the one-year anniversary of the opening of the ILO Project Office in Qatar,” said Houtan Homayounpour, head of the ILO Project Office in Qatar.


Qatar, UN sign MoU on combating drugs and crime

The State of Qatar and the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC) have signed a memorandum of understanding to strengthen partnership and develop co-operation between the two sides in a number of areas, including the protection of sport from corruption and crime. The MoU was signed in Vienna on behalf of the State of Qatar by Brigadier Ibrahim Khalil al-Mohannadi, member of the Supreme Committee for Delivery & Legacy and Head of the Advisory Office Unit in the Committee, and John Brandolino, the Director of Treaty Affairs, at the UNODC.
The MoU is part of Qatar’s efforts to open channels of cooperation with friendly countries and international institutions, which are expected to participate in the files adopted by the State of Qatar in the context of interest in adopting policies that contribute to the stability of society and the welfare of people.
The co-operation also comes within the framework of the 2022 World Cup, as well as the development of the partnership between the Supreme Committee for Delivery & Legacy and the UNODC to support and strengthen the joint efforts to protect sport from corruption and crime through awareness-raising, capacity-building and technical assistance activities designed for sports organisations and representatives of the national criminal justice institutions.
The co-operation with the UNODC is expected to open channels for the implementation of a number of projects of common interest, the most important of which is the preparation of the international conference expected to be held annually in Doha, in order to achieve the orientations related to the exclusion of sport from corruption and the impact of organized crime on honest competition, including the mechanisms of counter-terrorism and their positive impact to create a healthy sports environment. — QNA


Mercedes-Benz model recalled over safety concerns
The Ministry of Commerce and Industry, in co-operation with Nasser Bin Khaled Automobiles, dealer of Mercedes-Benz in Qatar, has announced the recall of Mercedes-Benz S-Class model of 2017 due to a malfunction in the control steering system.
The recall campaign comes within the framework of the ministry’s continuous efforts to protect consumers and ensure that car dealers follow up on vehicle defects and repairs.
The ministry said that it will coordinate with the dealer to follow up on the maintenance and repair works and will communicate with customers to ensure that the necessary repairs are carried out.
