The Public Works Authority (Ashghal) has announced a temporary closure of the underpass at Umm Lekhba Interchange and sections of Al Markhiya Street in both directions from 2am to 5am daily for two months from Monday. 
The closure has been announced to allow the construction of Umm Lekhba Interchange that forms part of Sabah Al Ahmad Corridor. During the diversion that is designed in co-ordination with the General Directorate of Traffic, road users have been told to make use of the alternative routes, as shown on the map.

From Al Markhiya Street to Al Luqta and Al Gharrafa

Traffic on Al Markhiya Street heading towards Al Luqta and Al Gharrafa will be diverted to Arab League Street and Khalifa Street to reach Al Gharrafa Interchange where they can exit through the service road then turn right towards Makkah Street to reach Al Luqta Area. In addition, road users can continue straight on Al Gharrafa Interchange and use the local roads following the signs to Thani Bin Jassim Street and Al Gharrafa.

From Thani Bin Jassim Street to Al Markhiya Street

Road users on Thani Bin Jassim Street heading towards Al Markhiya Street have been directed to use the alternative route from Al Ittihad Bridge and turn left through local roads to reach Al Markhiya Street.
Ashghal will install road signs advising motorists of the traffic shift and requests all road users to abide by the 50 kph speed limit and follow road signs to ensure their safety.
