Al Shaqab Racing’s Al Walid raced to his second straight victory and in the process led a one-two for trainer Alban Elie Marie De Mieulle in the Musheireb Cup at the Al Rayyan Park’s turf track yesterday.
The 6yo had Qatar’s Faleh Bughanaim in the saddle and the jockey did well to guide his mount to a one and a half length victory, which was also his 19th this season. Ronan Thomas helmed Umm Qarn’s Sehab to second place while She’ris finished third under Adnan Hawa. Hadi Nasser Rashid al-Ramzani schooled AJS Jood had finished midfield on his debut last month. But the Al Jeryan Stud colt put up a much improved performance under Tomas Lukasek in the penultimate race of the day yesterday. The 3yo finished a comfortable two lengths ahead of second placed Al Adeed Al Jeryan, ridden by Ivan Rossi, to win the Qatari Breeders Cup. Mathieu Pelletan helmed Joudy to third.
Abdulatif Hussain al-Emadi’s Black Pearl made a smashing debut yesterday. In the Mesaieed Cup, the Ibrahim Saeed Ibrahim al-Malki trained gelding had Ivan Rossi in the saddle and the two did enough to go past the post three quarters of a length ahead of Ronan Thomas ridden Wadhah, while Al Harqah was third under Anas al-Seyabi.
