The Police College, in collaboration with the Community Policing Department, hosted a two-day seminar on ‘Police and Society: Safety and Security are Responsibility of All”.
The aim was to identify the objectives and duties of the Community Police and its role in spreading security awareness that contributes to the reduction of crime and the stability of the society.
The opening session on Wednesday was attended by Director General of Public Security Major General Saad bin Jassim al-Khulaifi.
Director-general of the Police College Brigadier Dr Mohamed Abdullah al-Mahna al-Marri, who presided over the first session, said the seminar focuses on the interactive role of the civil society with the security services in the field of community awareness and protection from the spread of destructive ideas and prevention of crime.
Community Policing Department Colonel Sultan Mohamed al-Kaabi said the seminar is aimed at seeking measures to strengthen the close and integrated relationship between the police services and the society in all its segments.
The relationship of the police as a whole and especially of the Community Police to society stands on vision, mission and objectives that advance police performance in Qatar in a sophisticated work model.
“We aspire through this relationship to consolidate the principle of co-operation and partnership between the police and society on the basis of trust and mutual respect” he said adding that police’s most important duty is to address issues and problems and challenges being faced by the community.
“Police is obliged to address the challenges that have an impact on the family entity and the identity of the community and its moral and religious traditions,” he said.
Assistant director of the Community Police Department Lieutenant Colonel Hussain Aman al-Ali presented his paper on ‘Tools for Achieving Social Security - From an Islamic Life Perspective”. The second paper on ‘The Impact of Traffic Awareness on Achieving Road Safety’ was presented by assistant director of Traffic Awareness Department by Lieutenant Colonel Jaber Mohamed Odaiba.
