Rain emergency teams at the Ministry of Municipality and Environment (MME) have concluded the necessary works to drain out rainwater that had accumulated in various municipalities across the country.

Safar Mubarak al-Shafi, director of the General Cleanliness Department at the ministry and head of the rain emergency committee, said more than 26mn gallons of rainwater was drained out until Sunday morning.

The water was drained out through non-stop operations carried out by the teams. This was done in 5,366 batches using 251 tankers and 31 water pumps, and the work involved some 527 personnel, who were keen to respond to all 263 reports received by the operations room, the MME said in a press statement.

The rainwater removal work was implemented promptly to ensure the safety of road users and smooth traffic circulation on all roads affected by the weekend rains, al-Shafi observed.

The country experienced thunderstorms and rainfall of varied intensity on Sunday, including in Doha. The skies have cleared since then.

Figures released by the weather office on social media on Sunday showed that Batna received the highest rainfall since early on Saturday at 20mm, followed by Umm Bab at 16.1mm, Ras Laffan at 15.7mm, Abu Hamour at 15mm, Ghuwairiyah at 13.7mm, Doha International Airport area at 13.1mm, Al Khor at 12.5mm, Jumayliyah at 12.4mm and Sheehaniya at 10.7mm.

In its forecast for Monday, the Qatar Met department has said strong winds and high seas are expected in some offshore areas in the early hours of the day. The wind speed may go up to 22 knots at first, with the sea level rising to 7ft. Fine conditions will prevail later.

There is no warning for inshore areas on Monday, and the Met department has said it will be relatively hot during the day and some clouds are also expected along with mild conditions by night.

The minimum temperature on Monday is expected to be 19C in Abu Samra and 20C in Doha, Wakrah and other places. The maximum, on the other hand, will range from 28C in Dukhan to 35C in Wakrah and Mesaieed, with Doha expected to see a high of 34C.
